At this environment-conscious society, everything seems to have a close relationship with carbon footprint.
Do not consider that we can clarify our relationships with carbon emission as long as we avoid driving cars or burning logs. Only one hamburger we eat from McDonald may consist of very high level of carbon footprint. Why is that? As we know that a piece of ground meat in the hamburger might be transported from the U.S. by air; the onion in the meat might be sent from Yilan by trucks; the complimentary toys together with the burger might be manufactured and then shipped from mainland China . After summing up all the carbon dioxides created from the manufacturing process to the shipment of a hamburger, you may figure out the amount of its carbon footprint. A foreign research has it that the carbon footprint one hamburger holds may averagely amounts to 3.1 kilo. That’s really incredible!
** ~ has it that是「根據~」的用法,相當於according to~。這種用法很常出現在寫作中,比如說:Legend has it that~ 傳說中…、Report has it that~ 據報導…
Today, one of my colleagues posted a public question on Facebook. He asked that in average, how much carbon footprint, when hypothetically shared by every passenger, belongs to one member in the airplane during a long-haul flight? Holy Cow! After my careful calculation, every member in a flight from Hong Kong to the States, for example, shall share 1.5 to 2 tons of carbon dioxide emitted from the aircraft. That is to say, an Airbus accommodating more than 200 passengers will create over 500 tons of the carbon emission when flying long-haul. Moreover, the carbon footprint for every passenger from such flight would not be entirely consumed by averagely 1.5 to 2 hectares, equal to 15,000 to 20,000 meter square, of rainforest until a year later. My! There are so many long-haul flights in a day. Does this mean carbon dioxide is everywhere in the sky? No wonder there are holes found on the Ozone layers.
其它類似的用法有:Wow、My God、Holy Shit/Crap等。
In light of this, we ought to cut back on our times of flying via airplane. Well, as a flight attendant, am I also the one to blame for putting an end to the Planet? Oh~ this is my job after all. I should not think too much and need to focus on doing a good service in-flight. In our daily lives, we have to make every effort to reduce our carbon footprint while keeping praying any carbon-fee fuels or energy sources to be invented in the near future. 3). A clarify A’s relationship with B:A與B劃清界線、撇清關係 4). dmission:排放、散發 5). to consist of:包含 (=contain = be made up of = cover = embrace = comprise = involve等) 6). ground meat:漢堡裡頭夾的那片漢堡肉。 7). complimentary:免費的 (=fee = give-away) 8). to sum up:加總 9). to figure out:想出~、計算出~ 10). long-haul:長途的 11). carbon dioxide:二氧化碳 12). to accommodate:容納、提供膳宿 13). ozone layer:臭氧層 14). to cut back on:減少 (=reduce) 15). to put an end to~:殺死~、終結~、毀滅~ 16). to make every effort to~:盡力~ (=do one’s utmost to~ = try one’s best to~ = go all out to~ = spare no effort to~)
