Had it not been for my junior-college classmate—Monica’s recommendation, I wouldn’t have had a chance to try the most delicious pineapple cake I’ve ever tasted—Sunnyhills Pineapple Cake.

**Had it not been for~」是假設語氣「If it had not been for」的縮寫用法(If,將Had移至前方倒裝),表若非~、要不是~。 Were it not forBut for、及Without等後加上名詞表示若非要不是的句型,而此種句型是表「與過去事實相反」之意。 If it had not been for/Had it not been for/Were it not for/But for/Without + N., S + would/could/should/might + have p.p.。如:Had it not been for Steven’s help, I could not have passed the exam.

Most of us have tasted pineapple cakes already, and many have a liking for this traditional Taiwanese snack. But do you know that a majority of the cakes are made with Chinese white gourd jam as their stuffing? Yes, it’s true according to some sellers and manufacturers because when made into jam, Chinese white gourd bears a resemblance to the flavor of pineapple, and most of us have gradually accepted such taste without knowing it’s actually another form of the vegetable we eat often.

Well, when it comes to Sunnyhills pineapple cakes, the story would be so different. On having them for the first time, you will definitely give them thumbs up and will think they really eclipse their ordinary counterparts. Unlike the general pineapple cakes on the market, Sunnyhills’ stuffing comes from real pineapple (native pineapple) flesh, making it tastes more authentic. You can see from the picture below that I purposely pulled out the flesh to show how solid the texture is. More amazingly, Sunnyhills’ cakes are coated with the crust containing strong flavor of milk. Just one small bite of the cake will make you feel like being on cloud nine.

** 第二句的On having them… On entering my house, I saw my father watching TV in the living room = As soon as I entered my house, I saw my father watching TV in the living room.
** to be on cloud nine如同to be in seventh heaven 皆是指樂到忘我的竟界。

Trust me. I suddenly fell in love with this cake the first time I ate it and I don’t think I would enjoy the ordinary ones anymore.
