My company’s Standby system is set up to fill the vacancies from absent crew. Should there be any crew members taking leaves all of a sudden, the standby ones would be called up to fill their shoes. If there should be any crew members taking leaves all of a sudden, the standby ones would be called up to fill their shoes.
In general, we are rostered a standby block roughly every two or three months. The standby crew are required to stay at their own places to wait for the company’s calls made to our household telephones. The standby is normally divided into one and two blocks, during which 4 to 10 standby hours are arranged randomly on a daily basis.
No one is in favor of standby. Most of us would like to be scheduled with flights in advance because we may know when we will operate a flight and who we will flight with as well as know about the pre-flight information. Every one is sitting on thrones in the course of standby, for he or she is nervous about being given an unexpected call by the company to hastily rush to serve a duty. The end of it, on the contrary, makes us as happy as being liberated from jail.
I’ve already rostered a standby block twice. I was totally safe from the latest one, which I just “got through”two days ago, making me on cloud nine. However, I was frightened half to death by my roommate because of his silly pranks by making my household phone ring via his mobile phone from the previous two standby blocks. Such a behavior is despicable and unforgivable~LOL. To sum up, no one likes to be called on standby in that a majority of the standby-flights really suck.
**in that + S + V相當於Because (因為~~),其後是要加子句的喔!如:Sarah is a very good flight attendant in that she is always praised by passengers.
Owing to that fact that we are not allowed to go out and need to cook for ourselves during standby periods, we usually get to a supermarket to buy some food at leisure time. From my experience, it’s more convenient to cook for several meals and they are usually more delicious than those takeouts. I bought a few microwavable containers before for such purpose.
**owing to~相當於due to~、because of~、on account of~、as a result of~的用法,其後接名詞,做由於/因為… Key Words
1). to set up:建立、設立
Are there any vacancies for tonight?
3). to fill one’s shoes:
4). standby block:
Public (tele)phone
6). in favor of:喜愛、讚成
7). in advance:
8). to sit on thrones:
9). in the course of:在… 過程中
10). to be librated from~~:從~~被釋放
11). to get through:熬過~
12). to be on cloud nine:
13). to be frightened half to death:
15). despicable:
16). a majority of:大部份的
17). takeout:外賣
18). microwavable containers:
19). in one sitting:
I made three meal boxes in one sitting, time-saving and money-saving. These microwavable containers function really well during the standby block.
