第一次飛舊金山的經驗真是難忘到極點呀!  

My first experience of flying to San Francisco was awfully unforgettable.  

 

舊金山航班超極疲累的傳聞好幾年前就老早在我們組員間傳開了。點解呢?這都得歸咎於大部份這趟班(自香港出發)的乘客皆是些苛求、且點吃的喝的絕不手軟的印度人。更令人畏懼的是,這些印度人所點的一拖拉庫機上特別餐總是搞得我們疲憊不堪 

The rumor that SFO flight is extremely tiring had already made the rounds years ago among crews in my company. Why is that? It all goes to the fact that most of the passengers (ex-HKG) are Indians who often uncover their demanding attitudes and never stop asking for drinks and foods during the whole flight. What’s more horrible, the large number of special meals they request never makes us free from being exhausted and beat.  

 

頭一次親身體驗過舊金山班之後我才了解這個傳聞並非虛假。我們都知道,每個人對於食物都有自己的偏好,而有些人則因為宗教或健康等特殊因素更加堅持他們的喜好。這就是為什麼飛機上會針對不同的乘客要求準備所需要的特別餐,當然啦,這些餐得必需是乘客得在登機前二十四至四十八小時前預約好喔。一般來說,一個航班的特別餐數量大概是十幾個至二十幾個啦;若碰到這個數量以下或甚至沒有特別餐的航班則算我們走狗屎運,因為我們不用在供應一般正餐前手忙腳亂地先發特別餐給需要的乘客。不過,要是做舊金山的班,我們便逃不過一百多或甚至兩百個以上特別餐的命運,因為大部份乘客是印度人,極少數會要求一般正常供應的餐點的。這也就是說,我們在派特別餐期間鐵定忙到爆,他們所點的餐包含了「印度素食餐」、「印度葷食餐」、或「回教餐」等。餐點供應結束後,如果您認為我們總算可以喘口氣休息的話,您就大錯特錯囉!通常這會是另外一場惡夢的開始。這些乘客也許會小睡一會,但大部份的時間他們都會無所不用其極地「善加」利用他們在飛機上的旅程狂吃狂喝。這段期間,服務鈴是不間斷的;他們最愛的無非是水、茶、咖啡、威士忌、可樂、果汁等,而我們組員則得照吩咐供應所需,如同打仗般地忙到不可開交,好像要等所有可下肚的東西都銷完我們才有時間休息一樣。  

I began to know it was not a rumor after I personally got through the hard time on my first SFO flight. As we know, people have their own preferences for food, some of whom are even strictly attaching to it due to special reasons such as religion or health. This is why there are special meals offered for passengers of different categories, but the meals have to be requested at least 24 to 48 hours before a flight. On the whole, special meals (SPML) in each flight are around 10 to 20. We will be lucky if the SPML are below the said number or even zero because we don’t have to spend extra time and be busy passing out them by hand before we distribute normal meals to other passengers. Well, when operating the SFO flight, you cannot get away from handling more than 100 or even 200 SPML, for most of the passengers are Indians and few of them are ok with normal ones. This means we have to be very very busy just like fighting a war in the course of distributing special meals, mostly Indian Vegetarian Meals, Hindu Meals, and Moslem Meals. At the end of meal service if you think we may have some time to break, you are totally wrong. It’s usually the beginning of another nightmare. They might take a short nap, but a majority of them will go all out to take advantage of their in-flight journey to crazily eat and drink. Call buttons never stop; water, tea, coffee, whisky, coke, peanuts, juice are all their favorites and we crew cannot but serve as told accordingly, which seemingly no doubt pushes us to be on the run until they finish everything.

 

但我卻將舊金山班視為可以提升工作戰鬥力與經驗值的航班,還滿享受這種閒不下來的工作模式說。俺認為,不論我們面對的客人是如何的形形色色,我們都得試著咬緊牙根撐過難關,並將最好的一面表現出來。我想,這就是所謂的工作藝術吧! 

But as I consider it a good chance to boost my service performance, I quite enjoy this kind of bustling way of working. No matter what kind of passenger we are faced with, in my view, we shall always try to grind and bear it and show our best to make each flight safe and happy. This is what is called the art of working.

我很喜歡我們組員在舊金山所待的飯店。它就座落在市中心,想要逛街血拚或體驗熙攘的都市生活都非常方便。百貨公司啦、超級市場啦、電影院啦、以及像是「起司蛋糕工廠」等高檔餐廳就只是幾步之遙而已。另外,感謝同航班和我一起飛的台灣同事-Vivian,她請她在舊金山的朋友-Jason開車帶我們以及另一位組員到處兜風,讓俺的第一趟飛舊金山就有不少美好的回憶。  

I like our hotel in San Francisco because it’s located in a down-town area where crews may go shopping or expose themselves to the hustle and bustle life of a big city easily. Department stores, supermarkets, movie theaters, and a number of great restaurants such as the Cheesecake Factory are just within a stone’s throw. BTW, thanks to my Taiwanese colleague, Vivian, who flew with me on the same flight, she kindly asked her friend, Jason, a citizen of San Francisco , to give me and the other crew a joyride to many parts of the city, which has left me with wonderful impressions on my first flight to SFO.

組員們每次都會來吃的「起司蛋糕工廠」餐廳,就在Macy's百貨的八樓.它不只有賣好吃的起司蛋糕喔,還有賣各式的美式料理  The must-eat Cheesecake Factory restaurant located on the 8th floor of Macy's department store does  not only offer delicious cheese cakes, but also carry a variety of American foods.



聽說不少組員都會來這家蘋果專門店買剛推出的便宜iPad  Some crews are said to have bought themselves the newly-released inexpensive iPad in this Apple outlet



閒閒沒事半夜又跑去看電影了.這次看的是即將在台上映的恐怖片-人工進化  Having no particular things to do, I went to see a movie again in the mid-night. This time, I checked out the movie, Splice, which is soon to be released in Taiwan.
